Fall is the best. Cold enough for sweaters and campfires at night, and warm enough for being outside (without baking like a potato). And then there’s the decor. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE decorating my house this time of year. There are so many options when it comes to fall, because you’ve got leaves, and pumpkins, and Thanksgiving and the list goes on. I decided that one of the wreaths I wanted to make this year was this adorable DIY Pumpkin Wreath!
This DIY Pumpkin Wreath is SO simple, I promise. If you can tie a knot and tie a bow, that’s the most difficult thing you’ll have to worry about doing. This wreath is pretty cheap too, which is another one of my favorite things. Let’s get making!
You will need:
Straw Wreath Form
Natural Raffia
Orange and White Chevron Fabric
Green and White Checked Fabric
Rolled Burlap
Cute Fall Sign (we found ours at the Dollar Tree…as part of a yard stake sign…we just disassembled!)
Hot Glue Gun
DIY Pumpkin Wreath
The first thing you will need to do (besides plugging your glue gun in and letting it warm up) is to wrap your straw wreath form in burlap. Just hot glue the end of the strip down, wrap it all around the wreath form until it’s covered, and then glue the other end down. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just needs to cover the whole wreath form.
I just had all of these things (besides the fall sign) at my house (I basically have a Hobby Lobby in my basement), and I had just enough chevron fabric leftover from a project to make this wreath! You could easily get away with just a fat quarter of this if you found it. Or a thick chevron ribbon would work too. I just cut my fabric into three inch wide strips and wrapped it around the wreath (gluing the ends like the burlap), leaving plenty of space for the burlap to show through.
My favorite part of this wreath is the cute little pumpkin stem at the top of it. I just cut a few strips of some green checked material I had on hand, and tied it around the top (this is the same technique we used for that adorable Patriotic Bandana Wreath). Not only does this add a nice pop of color, but it makes an adorable stem for your DIY Pumpkin Wreath.
The next step is to attach this cute little “home” sign to the wreath. Line it up and center it, and then hot glue the edges liberally to the wreath. This sign was part of a yard sign stake I found at the Dollar Tree. I just ripped this part off (now the yard sign says, “Home sweet” and my seven year old still wants to put it in the yard like that) and used it for the wreath.
The last step is to grab out a handful of natural raffia, line it up the best that you can, and tie it into a bow. Then just hot glue the center of the bow to the middle of the stem part at the top of the wreath. And that’s it! Wreath is finished! Now you can just hand it on your door and enjoy!
