How to Make Squishies
In case you are unaware, Squishies are a popular kid’s toy. They’re like $5-$7 each and usually look like some kind of food or cute animal. You squeeze them, and they’re super soft, and they keep their shape.
In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make Squishies so you can customize them however you want! You can make them to give as gifts, to sell at craft fairs, for kids to sell to each other, or even as party favors! DIY Squishies are all the rage right now and they’re SO much fun to make!

I figured it up, and if you bought all the supplies to make this you would spend about $65. This kit will make at least 75 DIY Squishies (probably more if you don’t screw up your first couple of batches like I did), which makes them less than $1 each. So if you were making them to sell, and bought a second foam kit to make more (and didn’t have to buy more molds and paints etc) you would be able to make 75 more DIY Squishies for about $39.

DIY SQUISHIES

SUPPLIES:
Flex-Foam It III Trial Kit
Silicone Molds
Acrylic Paint
Fabric Paint
Foam Makeup Applicator Sponges
Paint Pens (optional)
Rubber Gloves
Disposable Cups
Disposable Spoons or Popsicle Sticks

MIXING
Your foam kit will come with a Part A bottle (yellow) and two Part B bottles (blue). You will mix them with a ratio of 1:2 of parts A and B respectively. So for every 2 spoons of Part B you use, use one spoon of Part A.
You will need plastic spoons (or popsicle sticks) to mix with, and small disposable cups. Use one spoon and cup for Part A, and one spoon and cup for Part B. Then you will need several spoons and several cups (one set for each batch you make) to mix the parts A and B together.
I use a tablespoon to make it easy on myself. So I will pour two tablespoons of part B into a disposable cup, making sure to use the spoon to really scrape it out of the tablespoon because part B is thick and sticky. Use a wet paper towel to clean off your tablespoon. Then put one tablespoon of part A into a separate disposable cup.
Use a plastic spoon to mix the content of the part B cup really well. Then use a separate spoon to mix the content of part A really well. Don’t skip this step, it’s important. GO HERE TO GET ALL THE SUPPLIES YOU NEED TO MAKE DIY SQUISHIES!
In a separate disposable cup, scrape the contents of the part B cup into it. Use the part B spoon and really scrape well to get all of it out. Then quickly (and I really mean quickly) use the part A spoon to scrape all of the contents of part A into part B. Use a separate spoon to vigorously mix part A and part B together. Mix for about 8-10 seconds. No longer. Then quickly pour the mixture into your silicone molds. The mixture will expand 15 times its original size, so only fill the molds about 1/5 full. Pour very quickly. You have about 10 seconds to get what you want out of your cup.
The first batch I did turned out looking like this because I did not move quickly pouring the mixture into the molds. You really must pour quickly. To keep from making a mess, I’d do this over a covered surface.
SETTING UP
This is what they should look like in the molds. Ignore the bear on the bottom left. I was still testing here and wasn’t sure how much solution I should be putting in the molds. Don’t touch the molds for 30 minutes and leave them to set up. After 30 minutes you can remove them from the molds by literally turning the silicone molds inside out. I used acryclic paint to do most of my painting. I wanted it to stay thin to the DIY Squishies would still stay soft and squishy. I used foam makeup applicator sponges to sponge on the paint. I also used fabric paint to make any details I wanted to stand out, such as the sprinkles on my donut, the blue parts on the eyes of my frog etc. Paint on one coat at a time and let it dry for a few minutes in between coats.

I coated my donut with a light tan for the bottom of it. Then covered the top with a brighter color like pink or purple for the icing. I used fabric paint to make the sprinkles. I have ZERO artistic ability and even I couldn’t screw this one up. Tons of fun. Donuts are my favorite because they make it look like I know what I’m doing.
See? Even with no artistic ability the molds make it easy. These stayed super soft, still squeezed just fine, and passed the “2-year-old-terror” test. Aren’t they so much fun?! I really love them!!!!
See how soft and squishy they are? Even after they’re painted they’re so soft. You can also use paint pens to make the details like eyes and noses if you want. I did because I just happened to have a paint pen.
