Valentine Sprinkle Cookies | Easy Valentine Cookies

Valentine Sprinkle CookiesValentine Sprinkle Cookies

I have a very large sprinkle collection. My husband thinks I’m ridiculous, but when I need a last minute festive treat, all I have to do is add some sprinkles and in a flash I have adorable treats with no stress. This year for Valentine’s Day I made these cute Valentine Sprinkle Cookies. Not only are these easy to make, but they’re just a REALLY good sugar cookie recipe!

These only require a little effort, but there are no cookie cutters or cookie decorating involved, which makes these Valentine Sprinkle Cookies a win in my book. Let’s get baking!

Valentine Sprinkle Cookies

This recipe for Valentine Sprinkle Cookies doesn’t have a lot of finicky things you need to worry about, but there are a couple of things you should not ignore ( I say this because I ignore things I don’t think are important – so I’m telling you not to be like me) in this recipe.

  1. Don’t skip the chilling/freezing step. I use the freeze method because I have the attention span of a gnat.
  2. Adding extra sprinkles to the tops of the cookies is listed as optional, but it isn’t really. They won’t be nearly as pretty if you skip this step.
  3. Don’t over-bake these. Cook them for the time listed, where the center of the cookie barely looks done, and then take them out. They will finish cooking on the pan while they cool.

Make adorable Valentine Sprinkle Cookies without the use of pesky cookie cutters or any cookie decorating! These are the perfect sugar cookie!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup Valentine sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix the butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg, vanilla and almond extract and whisk again until mixed.
  4. In a separate bowl mix together the flour, corn starch, cream of tartar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until mixed well.
  5. Add in the dry mixture to the wet mixture slowly, mixing with a fork to combine.
  6. Add in the sprinkles and mix them in with your hands or a fork.
  7. Roll balls that are about an inch wide and place them on a cookie sheet, leaving an inch of space between each cookie.
  8. Do not smash the cookies down at all.
  9. Add a pinch of extra Valentine sprinkles to the top of each cookie ball for brightest color when they’re done.
  10. Cover them with plastic wrap or Glad Press N Seal and place in the fridge for 4 hours, or overnight, or in the freezer for an hour if you’re short on time.
  11. After they’ve chilled, bake them at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
  12. The cookies will JUST look done on the edges. Don’t overcook. The cookies will not become golden brown.
  13. Should make about 2 dozen cookies.

Notes

  1. Don’t skip the freezing process, or your cookies won’t turn out right.
  2. Don’t be afraid to add extra sprinkles on top of the cookies before baking for more color!
  3. Don’t overbake. You want soft, edible cookies, not hard, crunchy bricks.
