I love making holiday decor that doesn’t LOOK homemade. I’d much rather someone ask me where I bought something, and to tell them I made it, then for them to just ask if I made it.

These feather ornaments so NOT look homemade, and look very high-end when they’re finished.

They fit nicely alongside the Feather Trees I made and even fit in well with the other ornaments on my tree for this year’s theme (I change it every year.)

You only need a few supplies and some time to make this Feather Ornament DIY!

How do you make this Feather Ornament DIY?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Styrofoam Balls
  • Feathers (I used these)
  • Fancy Ornament Hangers
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step 2: Glue in the ornament hanger.

I used a fancy ornament hanger to elevate the look of the feather ornament. I didn’t want it to have a plain hook, so I gave it a fancy one to make it more high-end. I found my hooks HERE.

I put some hot glue on the bottom of the small part of the hook and pressed it into the styrofoam ball like shown.

Step 3: Start gluing from the bottom.

To make your feathers lay like you want, start from the bottom of the styrofoam ball and work your way to the top.

Use hot glue to glue one feather on at a time.

Pro Tip: I find smaller feathers work best for the bottom of the ornament.

Step 4: Use bigger feathers to cover the middle sections.

Keep moving up and gluing feathers as you go. Once you get toward the middle you can use larger feathers to cover bigger portions at once.

Step 5: Cover the top.

Make sure you don’t leave any gaps at the top of the ornament near the ornament hanger. Use small feathers to cover all the gaps that let the styrofoam show through.

Pro Tip: The tiniest feathers in your package, if you buy the one I did, work best for the very top of the ornament.

When your ornaments are finished, they will look like this! Do them all in the same size, or mix them up as a variation.

You don’t have to use brown feathers, you can obviously use whatever colors you want. Some fun options would be white, grey, or even neon colors!
